Tistilal Village
Project Overview
The Tistilal Village is a 61,300 SF, three-story, multifamily housing redevelopment with 58 new and affordable homes that honor the Native American community, tradition, and healing. Replacing an aging 34-unit complex, the project stands as a model of intentional equity and community empowerment.
The U-shaped building draws inspiration from the longhouse, an Indigenous architectural form that symbolizes family, connection, and continuity. This influence is reflected in the shared community spaces, and clear, welcoming circulation encourages gathering and belonging. Constructed with durable wood framing, cement board siding, deep roof overhangs, and thermally efficient windows, the building emphasizes long-term resilience, comfort, and sustainability. The Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest (NARA NW) provides holistic resident support focused on mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The original residents were thoughtfully relocated and welcomed back, reinforcing community continuity and cultural stewardship. Tistilal Village offers safe, sustainable, and inclusive housing that strengthens our local Indigenous community for generations to come.
