Project Overview
La Plaza Esperanza, meaning “a place of hope,” is a transformative 18,000 SF community center in Gresham, Oregon, developed by Latino Network. Designed as a cultural and service hub, the center unites 59 essential programs under one roof, serving the nearly 50,000 Latiné residents living within five miles across East Multnomah County. The facility includes a culturally specific early learning center, youth programs, and flexible spaces for celebrations, community events, and intergenerational gatherings. On-site services ranging from housing assistance to mental health support are offered in a welcoming environment.
Constructed with mass timber, the building reflects the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, while warm, light-filled interiors foster connection and comfort. Key features include a central reception area, community lounge, multipurpose gathering rooms, and classrooms with indoor-outdoor play areas that support innovative, culturally responsive early education. The layout encourages visibility and engagement, opening directly to a large public plaza that welcomes all generations. Designed with community input, the interior spaces cultivate belonging, pride, and unity. La Plaza Esperanza stands as a symbol of resilience and the power of community-led vision to create lasting opportunity for generations to come.
